  • Victim Advocate- Provides crisis intervention, case management, and advocacy for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse.

  • Minimum Qualifications: BA in Human Service field and/or any combination of education and training with the target population or 2 years relevant experience. Experience working with diverse populations. Bilingual, preferably with Spanish as a first language. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to perform in crisis situation. Strong organizational skills. Ability to interact with residents in a caring manner while maintaining boundaries. Must be able to complete all required NMCSAP/NMCADV/NMCSVANW/CVRC/CYFD training before assisting survivors. Maintains good physical and emotional wellbeing. Demonstrates personal qualities such as good judgment, responsibility, and an ability to relate effectively with clients and family members. Must be able to pass a background check.

  • Part-Time Shelter Advocate- The Shelter Advocate plays a critical role in maintaining peace and productivity at the VSS Emergency Shelter. The Advocate must be able to work independently to manage the activity of the shelter. Client safety and individual success are the highest priority. This is a fast paced environment with many demands. Understanding priorities, being diligent in documentation, and appropriate in all communications are essential. General Responsibilities: Respond to crisis situations in a calm, effective, and professional manner.

    Maintain a secure environment in the shelter at all times by ensuring that all clients fully understand the security measures in the facility and by providing ongoing oversight of security measures.

    Serve as an advocate to all shelter clients by helping them understand their responsibilities in the shelter and helping them fulfill their individual goals.

    Support the Shelter Coordinator by completing assigned tasks in a timely manner, being alert to shelter needs including repairs and maintenance, and communicating shelter and client needs. Be On Call as scheduled for client transportation into shelter, backup in the shelter in case of crisis or emergency, or other critical shelter need.

    Answer the 24-hour crisis line, document the call appropriately, make appropriate arrangements for transport if necessary, make appropriate referrals as necessary, notify 911 or emergency personnel as necessary.

    Participate in trainings as needed and required by the agency or funding sources.

  • Minimum Qualifications: Must pass a CYFD Background Check. Two years prior experience working effectively in crisis environment. Experience working with diverse populations. Good verbal and written communication. Good organizational skills. Ability to operate in an understanding, sympathetic, and compassionate manner while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries as defined by the VSS policies and procedures. Bi-lingual preferred but not required. Ability to work as a team player with co-workers and supervisors. Good computer skills – both hardware and software. Must have a flexible schedule to work day, night and overnight shifts.
